Another Christmas quilt, but this time with presents! The owner used a lot of her Christmas stash up this way, and I really like how she included a little bit of everything. some more modern fabrics and some much older, but in the end they all worked together. Just like a family Christmas.
I especially liked how she used border fabric to make the borders, Even in one area where it looked like she ran out, she just kept on going with a second print, making it work. And it works!
When I first loaded it onto the frame I had to stop and phone the owner, as there was no top border. Was this intentional? Or did she forget something? Whew – totally intentional! 😀 This part will be tucked under pillows anyway.
I quilted it in fun loops allover with red thread both front and back to show off the stitching. The thread is still fine enough to not overwhelm the quilt top, but sparkles in the light. I love how shiny Glide thread is.
When her husband came to collect the quilt, I showed him the work. “Oh that is nice, real nice.” he said. Then he thought for a minute. “I think I’m gonna have to claim this one for me.”
As quilters, we always appreciate each other’s handiwork, but when the non-quilters like a quilt so much they want to keep it for themselves, well that’s the best gift of all.
